The Wadden Sea Protection Station is a nature conservation association founded in 1962 that works to preserve the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site. With 30 full-time employees and around 100 volunteers at a total of 17 stations along Schleswig-Holstein's North Sea coast, we contribute to the protection of the Wadden Sea in various ways. On Föhr, we look after the national park areas around the island on behalf of the state of Schleswig-Holstein.

What does that mean in concrete terms?

  • Regular patrols on the beaches
  • Mapping of breeding birds in spring
  • Mapping of mudflat organisms
  • Supervision of the no-use zone in the north of the island
  • Regular counting of all waders and water birds
  • Regular examination of the mudflats for garbage and special natural history finds
  • Around 1,000 environmental education events for guests and islanders every year

We work closely with the national park administration, the local ranger, the seal hunters, the island's kindergartens and schools, the town of Wyk, Föhr Tourismus GmbH and the island's other nature conservation associations, as we see nature conservation as a social task that can only be mastered together and through constant exchange!

Now NEW: "Watt'n Escape in the National Park House - Can you escape the tide?". The aim is to solve various puzzles about the unique Wadden Sea. Groups (from 3 to 6 people) are welcome to register by telephone on 04681/ 1313!

For more information about the Wadden Sea habitat, we would like to invite you to our events. If you have any questions about our work, please feel free to contact us at any time!

Please come to the events by bike, bus or on foot instead of by car. For the climate and the environment. Thank you!
